About

Sonoma Valley Historical Society was established in January of 1937 to collect, share, and preserve the history of the Valley of the Moon. The Society, a non-profit organization, has operated continuously ever since that time.

Collecting - Sharing - Preserving Sonoma Valley History

Telling the Stories of Our Community Through Many Voices

Throughout our existence, the Society has provided education through exhibits housed throughout the Valley, including at the Blue Wing Inn, Sonoma City Hall, and the Sonoma Community Center. As well as presenting informative talks and walks, and providing educational materials to teachers, authors, educators, and historians throughout the world.

Sonoma Valley History Museum: Since 1979, we have been sharing the Sonoma Valley story at our museum in Depot Park. You'll discover how the Valley of the Moon evolved and flourished from native peoples to contemporary times. The revitalized Sonoma Valley History Museum opens in 2025.

Marcy House Archives & Research Center: In 2016, the city of Sonoma leased the historic Marcy House to the Historical Society to house our extensive archives. We collect material that tells the Sonoma Valley story from Pythian Road at the north end of the Valley to San Pablo Bay to the south.
