This summer, Music in Place and the City of Sonoma invite you to soak up the sunshine, sip local wine, and dance to live music at the Sonoma Plaza Grinstead Amphitheater during Sonoma Sundays On the Plaza, a free concert series running June 7 through October 4, 2026.
This week's lineup features Marcos Silva! Marcos Silva performs worldwide. He has toured with many artists, including Paquito D’Rivera, Bud Shank, Claudio Roditi, Raul de Souza, Toninho Horta, Leny Andrade, Edu Lobo, Emilio Santiago, and Dori Caymmi, and he was the musical director for Flora Purim and Airto Moreira for 24 years. Silva has written arrangements for Dizzy Gillespie’s band, and he replaced Gil Evans as composer-arranger of Airto’s Spiritual Mass with a 63-piece orchestra in Germany. He is also sought after as a producer of albums, including three of his own. Silva’s composing was highlighted by the two albums he recorded with his sextet Intersection for the Concord Records imprint Crossover. The first, 1987’s Here We Go, inspired Gil Evans to describe him as “a great composer and pianist.” Silva followed up with 1989’s Black & White, another session featuring all original compositions and arrangements. His alluring compositions have also been recorded by jazz giants such as Herbie Mann, Toninho Horta, Romero Lubambo, Airto Moreira and Flora Purim.
Sonoma Sundays are free and open to all, thanks to the generous support of the Sonoma Community Center, The Dawn Redwoods Trust, and the McNeely Family Foundation.
Pack your picnic, bring your dancing shoes, and meet us on the Plaza!
