Recently formed in San Francisco, the Alora Quartet is dedicated to timeless beauty and connection through music. With a focus on transition, reflection, and momentum, the quartet brings each piece to life through its exploration of musical storytelling and resonance. Under the mentorship of Wonhee Bae and Yeeun Heo, first violinist and cellist of the Esmé Quartet, the Alora Quartet brings a fresh perspective to the string quartet tradition, blending both tradition and innovation.
The name ‘Alora’ is derived from the Italian word ‘allora’, meaning ‘then’ or ‘so’, symbolizing the quartet’s evolving musical journey. The Alora Quartet has had the privilege of working with world-renowned violist and pedagogue Kim Kashkashian in a masterclass, an experience that has influenced their artistic development. The Alora Quartet was founded by violinists Cuna Kim and Qicong Ma, violist Phoebee Lee,
and cellist Daniela Gonzales Siu.
